Why should you wear a batting glove?
Apart from the fact that every player wears baseball batting gloves these days; it is important to understand why you need to wear a batting glove. Baseball gloves will protect your hands from acquiring blisters, which are inevitable after batting for prolonged periods of time. Baseball gloves are also designed to offer a more solid grip, compared to holding the bat with your bare hands.
Which bat should you go for?
There are different types of baseball gloves, each designed to serve a specific purpose. You might be tempted to go for a catcher’s glove as opposed to a baseball batting glove, because of the price difference. However, a catcher’s glove is designed for scooping and catching balls while batting gloves are accompanied by webbing for a firmer grip on the bat. You will also want to make sure that you get the right glove size and normally 11 to 12 ½ inch gloves are meant for the youth and adults. To measure the size of a glove, place a flexible tape measure on the glove’s index finger and run it down to the base of the glove.
