How can you determine when to go for a swing?
Using Pete Rose’s words ‘see the ball, hit the ball.’ Sounds simple but most hitters find it quite difficult to determine when to go for a swing. A successful baseball batting swing is based on swinging the bat as closely as possible to the path at which the baseball is thrown. As a hitter you need to think quickly on your feet; look at the direction of the ball coming at you and swing your bat swiftly in the same direction.
What tips can you use to decide on a swinging trajectory?
The pitcher is always standing on a higher mound than the hitter; it is therefore wise to prepare for an upswing strike, if the pitcher throws from over his shoulder. You also need to get the bat early enough on the swing plane, for a harder and more effective hit. It is also important be able to decide whether a pitch is good enough for a strike or not. All these skills take a lot of concentration and a lot of practice to master.
